Probably not as a first priority.
llms.txt can be treated as an optional, forward-looking experiment, not as a substitute for the technical and content foundations that drive stronger AI visibility.
This page is part of the How to Improve Brand Visibility in AI Search cluster.
What llms.txt is trying to do
The file is typically framed as a way to point large language model systems toward useful site information, priorities, or documentation.
Why it should stay secondary
If your site is hard to crawl, poorly structured, thin on proof, or unclear about what the business offers, llms.txt will not fix that.
The higher-value work usually lives elsewhere:
- clean crawl access
- readable content in HTML
- strong internal linking
- direct answers to buyer questions
- consistent brand and trust signals
When it can still be worth testing
It can make sense as a lightweight experiment if the rest of the foundation is already in place and you want to document key pages or resources more intentionally.
Just keep the expectations realistic. It is not the main lever.
